Science this week

This week has been Science week.

We were lucky enough to have Mad Science come in and do an assembly for the whole school

As our topic is Evolution and Inheritance we went into the Sky Dome to watch a video about Dinosaurs and their adaptions.
We also had a workshop where we learnt about climate change and the effects of Green House Gasses.

In class we became archaeologists and dug for fossils. Whilst searching for the fossils, we discovered that fossils are bones that become buried over time.

Also we have learnt about adaptation, inheritance and natural selection. It has been a very busy week, full of science.

Maths this week

In Maths this week we have been focusing on angles and circles. We have learnt that there are 180 degrees on a straight line, 360 degrees around a point and how to find missing angles.

We also learnt different parts of a circle, and we can now name them all. Can you?

After we had learnt the parts of a circle we had to draw some circles, using compasses. They had to have specific sized radius', circumferences or chords.

Healthy Eating and Making a Stew

In Science we have been learning about how our heart works and how to be healthy.

First we tried to name different body parts, then we looked at how de-oxygenated and oxygenated blood traveled around the body, Practically, we demonstrated how the blood flowed. Using red food colouring for the oxygenated blood and blue for the de-oxygenated.

Then we learnt  about our pulse and what makes a healthy heart. It was hard to find our pulse sometimes. After some time we realised that our resting heart rate increased when we did exercise. 

After that we learnt about healthy eating. We learnt different food groups: carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins,  fiber, healthy fats, calcium and minerals. Using this information we had learnt we picked ingredients to make a stew. 

We  wrote a shopping list, and once Miss C-G had bought the ingredients we started preparing the stew.

We enjoyed cutting all of the ingredients, even if the onions made us cry.
The stew tasted amazing and a lot of teachers were drawn in by the smell, and wanted to try it.
